Tales of Symphonia was first released in Japan August 29th of 2003 for the Nintendo GameCube. It was released in two
editions - the regular (game only) edition, and a limited enjoy plus pack that came with a limited edition mint green
colored GameCube console and GameBoy Player, a copy of the game and a Lloyd Irving Illustration Lid for the GameCube
console.
Fans in the West never really got a chance to play a localized version until nearly a year later in July when it was released in the USA
and Canada. Fans in Europe got it a few months later in November.
In September of that year, 2004, Japanese fans were able to play a PlayStation 2 port of the game. The PS2 port had a few
extra features added in like, new animated cut scenes, additional costumes, sidequests, etc. And it got a new theme song as well,
from the same group I might add. Unfortunately, Namco never released the port outside Japan. Fans who do own an NTSC-J
PlayStation 2 console can get the "PlayStation 2 the Best" version (Japan's version of Greatest Hits) through online retailers though
as the original release is now out of print, and are probably only available through auction sites or used game sellers. |
